October's Sports Update

The Premier League is hotting up nicely and is beginning to have that old familiar look to it. After the bruising 2-2 draw between Manchester City and Arsenal at the Etihad recently which put a temporary halt to the City winning machine, the chasing pack must have got some encouragement, and for the moment, the Premier League still looks like a contest. The league has another break mid-month but there are still three full match days starting on the 5th, 19th and 25th which include some fascinating fixtures.

The Australian National Rugby League final is being played in Sydney on the 6th and with the kick off being around 09.30 Thai time it’s sure to be popular with our sports loving expat community. You can’t beat a major final and a full English to soak up the beers you’ll undoubtedly be imbibing throughout the day! This final is a major deal in Australia and even if you’re not a staunch rugby fan it really is a sporting spectacle to savour.

The PGA tour starts getting into gear this month and there are also some quality events in Europe, including the Dunhill Links championship at St. Andrews from the 3rd – 6th of the month. That’s followed by some decent tournaments in France and Spain, the timings of which are much kinder to our local golf watching community.

Finally we have the American legs of the F1 season to look forward to, including the USA race which takes place from the 18th – 20th of the month and the Mexican follows the next weekend. It’s great to see the iconic names of McClaren and Ferrari making massive improvements this season and at last giving Red Bull something to think about. That’s about it for this month, happy viewing everybody.
