Formula E

Established in 2014 by theFédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), Formula E is a groundbreaking motorsport series that features all-electric race cars. It combines cutting-edge technology with street racing and aims to promote sustainability by the adoption of electric vehicles. With races that are held on temporary city street circuits it also showcases urban landscapes and brings the excitement of motorsport to city centers. The series attracts top-tier manufacturers such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, and Porsche and drivers compete in identical cars. This ensures that victory is determined not by superior machinery but rather with skill, strategy, and efficient energy.

FIA’s Formula E has also introduced innovative features such as FanBoost which allows fans to vote for their favourite drivers and Attack Mode, where drivers pass through a designated activation zone to gain extra power. These elements enhance the viewer experience and add strategic depth and engagement to the races..

Last month Formula E returned to London for its 10th season finale a highlight of the racing calendar The London EPrix at the ExCel Centre. It featured a unique indoor-outdoor track weaving through the exhibition centre that took the drivers out along the Quay Front, weaving its way past the Prince Regent Station of the centre along the Royal Docks. This innovative circuit, with its mix of tight corners and fast straights, challenged both the drivers and their teams. The part indoor, part outdoor course provided a number of challenges with the course featuring a wide variety of surface changes around the lap. , leading to wildly different grip characteristics. These are only exacerbated in inclement weather, since part of the course is completely dry while the rest is wet, though this is mitigated somewhat by the all-weather tyres used in Formula E.

July’s event also emphasised sustainability as the Formula E’s mission is to promote electric mobility and environmental awareness. Beyond racing, Formula E also serves as a testing ground for electric vehicle technology, accelerating advancements that benefit everyday electric cars.London’s event served as a platform for showcasing advancements in electric vehicle technology and the positive impact of reducing carbon emissions. With a festival atmosphere that appealed to both families and motorsport enthusiasts alike, the return of Formula E to London underscores the city’s commitment to sustainable innovation and its status as a premier destination for international motorsport.

With Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin considering the hosting of ABB FIA Formula E World Championship possibly in Chiang Mai,lets hope we may be able to see this new motorsport here in Thailand soon.
