See Thomas Reimer Play Live at The Jazz

July-Thomas011

From the age of 6 Thomas Reimer had a deep love of music. He spent 8 years studying violin at the Academy of Music in Graz and the Bruckner Conservatory of Linz in Austria. At 14 he decided to change to the guitar, continuing his musical studies at university in Vienna. After gaining his diploma he went to Munich, to the world famous Jazz club Unterfahrt where he stayed for 20 years as its Jazz School’s Musical Director. He was also invited to play on the main “Galleria” stage with his band at Musikmesse in Frankfurt. At its peak this was one of the largest international trade shows and music festivals in the world.

Whilst in Munich Thomas also played at one of the city’s famous nightclubs: Nacht Cafe where many German celebrities such as Boris Becker liked to hang out. It was there that the famous American guitarist, singer, songwriter George Benson joined him on stage and they performed together. You can see the autograph from George to Thomas, that says “To Thomas -great Guitarist. George Benson”.It is above the bar at the Jazz Pit.

Also there is a copy of the CD Global Guitar that Thomas played on, alongside such legendary greats as Al Di Meola, Scott Henderson, and Mike Stern.

How did this memorabilia make it from Munich to Pattaya? Well, when travelling to Thailand, Thomas came upon the Jazz Pit (then in Soi 4, Pattaya). It became his home when he was asked to join as the club’s Musical Director. Four years ago he moved with the Jazz Pit to its beautiful new location at the Sugar Hut resort in Jomtien.

You can hear Thomas play at The Jazz Pit every evening other than Tuesdays and will be amazed by his incredible solo repertoire of over 1400 songs. He also enjoys playing here with many international musicians including: Dale Barlow saxophone (Australia), Willard Dyson drums (USA), Steve Cannon trumpet (USA), Bump keyboards (Thailand), Yoshi trumpet (Japan), Odd Riisnaes saxophone (Norway) Ala Heiler vocals (Germany), Fabrice Cima saxophone (France), Ron Cole guitar (USA), Harold Shorter drums (Germany) Dan Rose saxophone (USA) and Andy drums (England).

If you want to catch a full band night, go on Friday and Saturday evenings or at the really popular Sunday jam session: 2pm – 6pm. Otherwise pop in to see Thomas who has been performing on stage for 53 years and you can see him play live here any night but Tuesday. Chill at the Jazz Pit with a good drink and enjoy some cool sounds.

The Jazz Pit is at Sun Sabella, by the entrance of Sugar Hut Resort & Restaurant (by the junction for Pratumnak and just before the Law Courts)
