I’ve lived in Pattaya for more than 10 years but have never…… VISITED THE KING POWER STORE

By Gloria Jones

King Power is a world famous Thai company, founded by Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha in 1989. It has expanded into many sectors but is best known for duty-free shopping, particularly at airports, where it has a significant presence in: Suvarnabhumi International Airport, Don Mueang International Airport ,Phuket International Airport, U-Tapao Rayong Pattaya International Airport and Chiang Mai International Airport

It is of course possible to shop within the Duty Free shops at all these airports and even online at the company’s website: kingpower.com, but I had always been fascinated by the impressive looking store on Pattaya’s Sukhumvit and for a long time had wanted to have a look inside. So with a flight to the UK already booked I decided it was time to go take a look.

First of all, I must say that I was delighted to find it was extremely easy to drive and park at King Power. Upon entering I further discovered that there is also plenty of space on two floors to shop until you drop! You can browse through a vast range of designer brands and quality products including Beauty, Fragrance, Fashion, Watches & Jewelry, Sunglasses, Luggage, Footwear and also traditional Food & Souveniers.

At the front there is a reception desk with a team of people to help you complete all the necessary documentation with of course details of your flight details to ensure a trouble free pick up. I would advise going there at least 48 hours before you are due to travel to ensure that your purchases are ready and waiting for you at the airport.

What were my thoughts on the whole experience? Well I actually think it’s a great idea. Not only was there a money saving coupon presented to me before making my purchases in store, but also I had all the time in the world to consider and have a good look around. I know there is plenty to look at when you are at an airport but let’s face it, sometimes when you’re about to get a flight you may not be in the best frame of mind and have your “ shopping head” on. Perhaps you are carting around your hand luggage? Maybe a bit flustered having just had the hassle of passing through the baggage and passport control areas? Perhaps the Duty free area is busy and you don’t have much time before you get to the gate?

How much nicer to just collect your duty free purchases from the King Power collection point and wait to be called for your flight with time for a coffee, a flick through a good magazine and maybe even a glass of something before you go. I would recommend having a look around the King Power store. There’s plenty of great shopping to enjoy inside.
