Grooming Hacks
Contrary to popular belief men generally do care about their looks although many lack a basic grooming routine to take care of their skin and hair. If this sounds like you, here are some simple hacks that don’t take much time and will definitely help.
Look after your beard
Growing a beard might save you time shaving but if left unmaintained can leave you looking like a down and out. So make sure to get it regularly trimmed and in between you can use your hair styling products to keep it looking good and in control.
Use a blow dryer on your razor
Blow drying your razor immediately after use will lengthen its lifespan considerably. Whenever you use a razor it picks up water, dead skin, grime and hair. If you simply throw it back onto the shelf, all that gunk will start rusting the blade and dulling it. Spend a quick 20 seconds blow drying your razor to remove hair and moisture and so prevent oxidation leaving you with a clean, dry razor.
Use conditioner if you run out of shaving cream.
Wet shaving is an art and gets the closest results and whatever brand of razor you use a good shaving soap with a brush or some shaving cream will definitely help. If however, you run out of supplies conditioner can be used as a good standby.
No matter how hard you try, sometimes you can end up cutting yourself whilst shaving. Quite often that may lead to reaching for a piece of toilet paper on the cut to soak up the blood. There is a more discreet and effective way to treat these cuts – especially if you don’t want to walk around with bits of paper on your face and that is by rubbing a little lip balm on the cut that will seal it and prevent it from bleeding.
Put ice on your face first thing in the morning to beat puffiness or if you feel hungover.
Ice is a good anti-inflammatory if you wake up with a puffy face or are feeling rather delicate from the night before. You can reach for a bag of frozen peas or an ice pack to place on your face. Alternatively, rub ice cubes around your eyes or add them to a bowl of water and then push your face right in there.
With so many inexpensive barbers and hair salons in Thailand, there really is no excuse for not going regularly for a haircut. Whilst for some that might mean a monthly appointment others with locks that may need more attention may have to go more frequently.
No need to shampoo hair every day
Excessive shampoo use will strip hair of important natural oils and can leave the scalp irritated and dry. Try using shampoo every other day and if you have an important event to attend freshly washed hair can be difficult to style. Instead, wash your hair a day prior to the event date and this will help control frizz and stop you from having to use tonnes of hair products. If you have an oily scalp then using baby powder is a good idea.
CLEAR YOUR EARS WITH OLIVE OIL, NOT COTTON BUDS
Cotton buds can actually cause problems if forced down your ear especially when pushed too close to the eardrum. Olive oil, however, if dispensed a couple of drops at a time will lubricate your ears and loosen wax so it falls out of its own accord.
Use your toothbrush and toothpaste
A toothbrush and toothpaste can be used for other things than dental hygiene for example to exfoliate lips. By simply rubbing a toothbrush across the lips particles of dry dead skin can be removed to leave them feeling fresh and clean. Likewise, toothpaste can be used on the skin when a pimple threatens to break out. By putting a little toothpaste on the offending spot overnight it will dry up and be far easier to remove.
Hot showers are great to ease the aches and pains after a hard day’s work but there are many benefits to taking cold showers.
